Technology & Licensor Selection
Abstract
Fluor has extensive experience assisting clients in evaluating process technology options and selecting licensors. We develop an appropriate evaluation plan and prepare and issue inquiry documents to the licensors based on the client’s specific project requirements. We understand confidentiality concerns of both the client and licensor and sign agreements with both parties to protect intellectual property.
Evaluation criteria vary depending on the scope of the project, but may include:
Technology Readiness Assessment for novel technologies not yet commercially demonstrated
Knowledge of potential licensors of commercially available technologies
Compatibility with available feedstocks
Availability of complementary technologies
HSE and sustainability considerations
Potential sourcing of key components and transportation logistics of same to project site
Licensor track record
Licensor existing relationships with Fluor and the client
Licensor support presence in geographic area
Licensing fees / development costs
Licensor financial liquidity
After receipt of the qualifications of each technology licensor, we use a Kepner-Tregoe (KT) Analysis to evaluate the information from each technology licensor. We then work with the client to select the licensor for the project. Once the contract is signed, Fluor and the client determine how the interface with the licensor is conducted.
