Environmental Compliance Technologies

Abstract

Fluor integrates the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system into the plant while performing engineering, balance of plant design, procurement, construction and commissioning. We are knowledgeable in the different FGD technologies on the market today and our experience and neutral position allow us to examine clients' requirements and to effectively evaluate and recommend the optimal FGD technologies that most cost-effectively meets their needs.

Client Benefits

Fluor experts help clients understand the specific advantages and disadvantages of implementing different compliance technologies. Our relevant experience includes:

  • FGDs (flue gas desulfurization) to remove SOx - 77 projects using many different FGD technologies that service a total power plant capacity of 19,396 megawatts around the world.

  • SCRs (selective catalytic reduction) to remove NOx - 67 projects using different SCR technologies that service a total power plant capacity of 42,210 megawatts around the world.

  • ESPs (electrostatic precipitators) to remove particulates - 23 projects using different ESP technologies that service a total power plant capacity of 11,971 megawatts around the world.

  • Baghouses (BHs) to remove particulates - 30 projects using different BH technologies that service a total power plant capacity of 4,264 megawatts around the world.

  • Mercury removal systems to remove mercury - 12 projects using different mercury removal compliance technologies that service a total power plant capacity of 8,548 megawatts around the world.

NOx Control: Fluor offers solutions for reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) including EPC services for efficiency improvements, low-NOx burners, staged combustion using various forms of over-fire air, selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and electro catalytic oxidation (ECO), along with plant upgrades and modifications necessary to implement these technologies.

SOx Control: Fluor is a leader in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) retrofit projects for control of SOx. Our experience includes wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD), spray dry FGD, circulating dry FGD and seawater FGD. We also have experience with injection technologies using limestone, lime and sodium-based alkalis for the reduction of SO2 and SO3.

Particulate Control: Fluor has provided EPC services for numerous particulate control projects including wet and dry electrostatic precipitators and fabric filters. We offer EPC solutions for total particulate matter (PM), PM 10, PM 2.5, condensable PM and stack visibility issues.

Mercury Capture: Fluor offers a unique EPC approach for mercury capture by integrating the capture process into the power plant. Our experience includes pre-combustion additives, use of activated carbon (including halogenated activated carbon) and capture with fabric filters and various FGD technologies.

Hazardous Air Pollutants: Fluor provides EPC solutions to hazardous air pollutants (HAPS) including HCl, HF and other acid gases, lead, selenium and other metals and organic HAPS.
